Pitt will hold its blue-gold basketball scrimmage Friday night at the Pete giving its own version of Midnight Madness.
The blue-gold scrimmage is the beginning of a fairly big night. Jamie Dixon's never been a Midnight Madness fan for some reason, but the school is at least making an effort this season unlike some past ones. Personally, I never understood why teams, especially highly-touted ones like Pitt, would turn into the Grinch and deny the fans a Midnight Madness.
The roster will be split, and teams will be announced in Friday morning's edition of the student newspaper, the Pitt News. The game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. and is free to the public.
Here's where the fun really begins.
After the game, a dunk competition will be held between senior Gilbert Brown and freshmen J.J. Moore and Cameron Wright. Following the competition, the university is opening up the opportunity for students to meet Jamie Dixon, Agnus Berenato, and the men's and women's teams. Oh yeah, and the school is providing free pizza for students.
It might not have all the glitz and glamour of the televised Midnight Madness events, but it's a step in the right direction.
