Pitt's Ashton Gibbs' fast start nets him the first conference Player of the Week Award.
Ashton Gibbs had a great week last week and it paid off - he was named the first Big East Player of the Week for the 2010-11 season.
Last week in games against Maryland and Texas, Gibbs averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. He shot 50% from the field, 83% from the FT line, and 50% from three-point land over those two games.
Gibbs was also named the 2K Sports Classic MVP for those games.
UConn's Kemba Walker was a pretty strong candidate as well - he had 42 points against Vermont and averaged 30 points per game last week. But in games against Vermont and Stony Brook, I'm guessing the level of competition had something to do with his not being selected.
Gibbs also previously won the award in January 2010.
