Just got a text from the lovely University of Pittsburgh automated system that Pitt has called a 4:00 p.m. press conference to announce its next head coach. That, of course, is expected to be Michael Haywood.
My thoughts are pretty well known on the hire and there will be plenty of time to hash/rehash everything afterwards anyway. But even though I'm not in favor of this move, one thing that no one can question is that this is an unknown hiring. Even though Haywood doesn't have the track record I, or many fans for that matter, would have liked, he still deserves a chance and I hope that he gets it.
That said, this still feels like a reach to me and at the very least, you could say that Pitt should have gone with someone that had more of a track record as either a coordinator or a head coach. It's also going to be interesting to see if additional recruits reopen their commitments.
