Pitt coach Jamie Dixon's been in the news a lot with the whole 200th win thing. Now, he's been named as the Dapper Dan Sportsman of the Year.
Dixon won the award for last season's performance in guiding the Panthers to the NCAA tournament as a high seed despite the team being expected to be a bubble team at the beginning of the season.
"I know the list of guys who have won before," Dixon said. "I have great appreciation for the history of sports. As everyone knows, I'm a big fan of all of the Pittsburgh teams. This is quite an honor.
Obviously Pitt has had better teams and as I pointed out before, I think Pitt underachieved once it got into the tournament. Expectations changed when the team fought its way to a No. 3 seed and to lose in the second round was a disappointment. But Dixon still led team to a pretty good regular season finish and it is nice to see him win the award for the first time.
