It's not yet official, but Pitt's Dave Wannstedt is planning to coach in the BBVA Compass Bowl.
The news actually comes from defensive coordinator, Phil Bennett.
Wannstedt, unsurprisingly, couldn't be reached for comment. But Bennett weighed in on his plans:
"He's just doing some details right now," Bennett told reporters in Birmingham at a bowl news conference. "The plan is he will coach the game, be down here and then go into his role in the administration."
Bennett, who represented Pitt at the media event, said it wasn't an easy decision for Wannstedt to agree to coach one more game.
"He looked at some things and just thought the opportunity was too good to pass up at this time," he said.
E.J. Borghetti, Senior Associate AD, went on to say that Wannstedt hadn't yet made his decision known to the athletic department.
It doesn't surprise me that he's going to coach. Wannstedt doesn't strike me as the type to quit or give up on his team, so it makes sense. Hopefully Pitt can send him out with a win.
