Jon Baldwin Named Potential Breakout Candidate

ESPN's Mel Kiper listed ten breakout rookie candidates for the second half of the NFL's season and former Pitt receiver Jon Baldwin was among them (Insider article).

Playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, Baldwin's had a bad start to be sure. But after sitting out several games after the Thomas Jones fight, he did have a breakout game against the Chargers in his second appearance of the season when he caught five passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.

As we've seen before, the issue with Baldwin isn't talent - it's consistency. Those issues still seem to be following him in the NFL as in the other three games, he's had a combined three catches for only 41 yards and no touchdowns. That's not a huge surprise as it's difficult for most NFL rookie wide receivers to come in and put up huge numbers, but it will be interesting to see how many of those Charger-like games he can have.

The Chiefs rank near the bottom in passing yards, so it's clearly not all Baldwin, though.
