Well, it seems the lack of phone calls to Jaylen Bond was a non-issue. Not only is Bond starting to draw interest, but from some pretty good programs.
And Pitt appears out of the running - for now.
Bond committed back in April and then subsequently decommitted from Pitt (obviously the scholarship situation may have had a little to do with that). He's now back on the open market and there's lots of interest:"So far Jaylen is getting interest from Tennessee, Maryland, Penn State, Miami, Temple, St. Joe’s and several others," William Bond told NBE’s Matt Whitfield via text message Thursday night.
As for the school he signed a letter of intent with last November, Mr. Bond was unsure if the Panthers would remain in the mix.
"We haven’t heard from them," William Bond said when asked if Pittsburgh was still calling.
That last part is a bit telling. Sure, you could speculate and say that it's early, but if Pitt hasn't at least reached out to check on him since the decommitment, then it's probably less likely he ends up coming back - especially with so much interest from other schools.
Right now, Bond is overseas playing on the US Select Team playing in a Under-18 tournament.
