It's old news by now, but Pitt was beaten out by Xavier for basketball recruit Myles Davis as mentioned by Greg earlier this week. The Musketeers are becoming quite the annoyance as they also topped Pitt for Sim Bhullar a few months back.
The Bhullar loss wasn't quite as rough as losing Davis. No, Davis isn't a five-star recruit, but he was a solid guard - something Pitt needed. The Panthers are pretty set with big men, even if Khem Birch leaves after this season.
Apparently, playing time was a factor. Chas over at Pitt Blather noticed the same thing I did in his quote about why he committed earlier than expected:
"I just felt like it was the right place for me," the Plainfield, N.J., native said late Monday. "I feel like I’m going to have a good chance of playing time with Tu Holloway leaving.
I don't fault Davis at all - playing time is a factor for most recruits and at a program like Pitt, most incoming freshmen have limited roles in their first season. He could have eventually had his shot, but playing significant minutes in 2012 behind Durand Johnson and John Johnson would have been far from a guarantee.
