Pitt using CBI as motivation for disappointing basketball season

Jamie Rhodes-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

You knew this would happen, didn't you? After a disappointing basketball season, Pitt ended up in the CBI. I thought it was ridiculous, the Panthers went on to win it, and everyone was happy. Okay, maybe not.

Anyway, it was only a matter of time before the CBI would be used as a motivational tool:

The Panthers had only a CBI Tournament title to show for last season. A photo of the nearly empty Petersen Events Center at the first-round game against Wofford was hung in the locker room last March with a message to the players, reading, in effect: “This is what happens when you miss the NCAA Tournament.”

Like I said, that's not a huge surprise. It's fine and good and if I were Jamie Dixon, I'd do the same thing. But I always wonder about these sorts of things. If it were a one-game situation Pitt was facing, it might be one thing. But I have a hard time imagining that it will sustain them and force them to play harder over the duration of a season.
