Pitt vs. Michigan: Open Gamethread

Stay connected for news and updates

Jamie Rhodes-US PRESSWIRE

Regular season games don't get much bigger than this and when Pitt faces No. 5 Michigan tonight, it's going to be a good test of where they stand. Neither team has faced a great program yet and whoever comes out with a win is going look like the real deal.

For the Panthers, it's all about trying to slow the backcourt of Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway, Jr. Those two guys have averaged nearly 40 points a game and while Pitt's duo of Tray Woodall and James Robinson don't need to match them point for point, they can't let them go off.

I said in my Q&A preview with UM Hoops that I think this game comes down to defense just because both teams have shot so well this season, and I stand by that. The Panthers have to force Michigan to take bad shots and getting a bit more from a couple of players that have put up pretty pedestrian offensive numbers (i.e. Steven Adams) could be key.
