This past week over a series of posts, SB Nation released the network's preseason college football All-American team. Did any Panthers make the cut, you ask?
Ray Graham was a player that could have gotten serious consideration, but with the questions about his knee along with Pitt's slightly crowded backfield, it's understandable that he wasn't selected. The player who might garner the most consideration is defensive lineman, Aaron Donald who had a huge year in 2011. He'll almost surely see a good number of double teams this year. The key, though, will be if a few other guys on the line can bring pressure and force offensive lines to play him straight up. If that happens, he could easily have another big season.
If I had to give a dark horse candidate, I'd probably throw a flyer out on safety Jarred Holley, who's gotten some preseason recognition, or tight end Hubie Graham, who could have a ton of balls thrown his way. Graham's a tough one, though, in that Pitt will be using multiple players at the position and I don't know that any one of them will put up numbers worthy of even approaching AA status.
