After the big win against Notre Dame, Pitt faces another stiff test in North Carolina at Heinz Field this weekend. I don't really know what to make of this game and could see it going either way, really. Apparently the oddsmakers do, too.
As of Tuesday, the odds were even for the big game per Odds Shark.
Really difficult to argue against that in my opinion. After a slow start, North Carolina has picked things up a bit. And after a down time, Pitt rebounded to beat a ranked Irish team at home. Conventional wisdom says that the Panthers should be able to beat North Carolina if they could beat Notre Dame, but it also just doesn't have the same appeal. I have no doubt that Pitt will take the Tar Heels seriously, but it's just going to be a little harder to come play like gangbusters again.
Last weekend, Pitt was playing a team they felt they should have beaten last year in a home night game. This weekend, they'll be playing a team they don't know much about in an early 12:30 p.m. contest. Just not the same atmosphere. A lot to play for, obviously, but we saw what kind of letdown the team had after last year's Notre Dame game when Pitt promptly went out and jobbed to UConn.
Yeah, even sounds about right.
