Pitt has gotten off to their usual start in college basketball and remained undefeated with two wins this past week. Helping the Panthers get off on the right foot was senior Lamar Patterson, who is awarded this week's Panther of the Week. Playing multiple positions on the court is no easy task, but Pitt has asked Patterson to do just that and use his various skills to give them an edge over opponents.
Patterson overcame a rough shooting night earlier in the week during a win over Fresno State to finish with seven points, three rebounds, and seven assists. It wasn't the Lancaster native's best game by any stretch, but when you look at his performance against Howard yesterday, you see a pattern forming. Patterson's stat lines may not always be lopsided into one category, but there is always numbers everywhere. Against Fresno State, it was the assists, but yesterday against Howard, it was points. Patterson made up for his poor shooting by dumping in 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, and added in two steals for good measure in the Panthers' 84-52 win that brings the team to a 3-0 mark.
Our advice to you this season: Get used to these stats. You may not be wowed, but at the end of the game, you will see that Patterson does an incredible job of stuffing the box score in a variety of areas.
