Against the Odds: Pitt favored (barely) against Syracuse

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Pitt heads to Syracuse this weekend and some odds on the game are out. The Panthers are favored in Saturday's game, but by the slimmest of margins.

Pitt is a narrow one-point favorite over Syracuse as of Monday and it's basically a pick 'em.

I'm a little surprised at the early line and will be interested to see if it changes ... and if so, by how much. I don't think Pitt is a very good team this year, but was surprised that the line wasn't a bit more like three points. The Panthers have really taken it to Syracuse in the past decade and even on the road, have won four of the past six games against the Orange. Pitt has played the teams' common opponents a bit closer and have better wins.

After what we've seen out of Pitt this year, a loss wouldn't really be much of a surprise. Pitt struggled against one of the conference's worst teams in Virginia and has really been up and down this year. That said, I was a little surprised that the line wasn't a few more points in the Panthers' favor.
