Pitt's baseball team wrapped up another successful series with a split in a Sunday doubleheader against Wofford. The Panthers won the series two games to one and are now 5-1 on the season.
Pitt lost a close game 3-2 in the first contest. Due to playing a doubleheader, the game lasted only seven innings. But in the second game, the Panthers showed off some of that offense that has led them to five wins already. Pitt won 19-8 with a barrage of hits and home runs.
Steve Shelinski took over the team lead in home runs with a pair in that second game. He now has three on the season.
Next up for Pitt is the Bulldog Challenge in Charleston, South Carolina next weekend. Over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, they'll face The Citadel, UNC Asheville, and Virginia Commonwealth. The Citadel and UNC Asheville are playing about .500 baseball combined, but VCU is a perfect 5-0. That last game could be a good one.
Will be interesting to see if Pitt can squeak into the rankings this week.

The Pitt baseball team's hot start continued today with a 4-3 win over Wofford. The Panthers are now 4-0 on the season.
Casey Roche, possibly; the team's best player, had two more hits and added a couple of steals today. Pitcher Ethan Mildren went eight strong innings, giving up only two earned runs. The star of the game, though, was catcher Ethan Soto, who went 2-3 with a home run and three RBI.
Roche, in particular, is really off to a hot start. The outfielder leads the team in average (.556), hits (10), home runs (2), RBI (7), total bases (16), walks (3), on base percentage (.619), steals (3), and fewest strikeouts (1).
Winning the first game of a series takes a ton of pressure off. Instead of pressing in the next two games, Pitt can go into those with a bit of confidence and also know that they just need to win more to grab the series.
Getting the first game of the series was big. The last thing Pitt could afford after winning its first three games was something as disastrous as being swept. Next goal for the Panthers is to win the series by grabbing a victory tomorrow. The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader tomorrow with the first game starting at noon. The first game will only be seven innings, though.
