Quick hitter here, but Jarred Holley spoke to a hometown paper recently about the NFL Draft and I thought it was worth a read.
As I said earlier, I think Holley's a player and he could stick on a team. That said, I'm still not sold on the idea he'll be selected. But as he noted in that article, sometimes it's better to go the free agency route than be taken late.
I'm sure there's some kind of value for a player to actually hear his name being called in the draft - even if it's as a last-round draft pick. But most of the time, a player can end up in a much better situation by not being taken since as a free agent, they can pick and choose where they want to go. If Holley is taken by a team late that doesn't particularly need a safety but thinks he's the best player on the board, it won't help him later in the year when he tries to make their roster.
