2014 Thomas Jefferson (Clairton) linebacker Chase Winovich has been on Pitt's radar for some time now and they offered him a scholarship back in January. The Panthers are one of a slew of programs that have offered him, but find themselves as a finalist for his services. They're up against Michigan and Ohio State and Winovich is expected to announce his decision today.
I've only been following him casually, but there are lots of mixed signals out there. You can find many saying that his decision will come down to either Pitt or Michigan. And if you dig a little deeper, you'll find many predicting he winds up at Ohio State.
Ohio State blog, Eleven Warriors, talked with him after his Pitt visit after some rumors of him committing to the school were apparently floating around. He said that was untrue and that he still needed to think about things. mgoblog has some perspective from the Michigan side of things. Here's a bit more from SBN blog Maize and Blue.
Adding a quality linebacker would be good to hear after the expected loss of Deaysean Rippy. And yeah, finally getting a second recruit for 2014 wouldn't be all that bad, either. As for Pitt's chances, whenever you're down to a final two or three for a kid with dozens of options, you've impressed him. Pitt has a shot, but up against two B1G powerhouses isn't an easy task.
