2014 National Signing Day / Pitt Football Recruiting: Adonis Jennings a strong complement to Tyler Boyd for Panthers

With the loss of senior Devin Street, Pitt's passing game will take a bit of a hit next season. That's even more true when you consider the team is breaking in a new quarterback.

The Panthers, however, got some good news last year when wide receiver Adonis Jennings committed to the program.

Jennings is a four-star recruit and regarded as one of the better wideouts in the country. ESPN is perhaps the highest on him, ranking him as the 19th best wide receiver as of yesterday.

Jennings was just a huge get for the program. Most importantly, he gives Pitt the weapon they need to complement star Tyler Boyd in the passing game. For the record, Boyd still produced last year as a freshman even when Street was MIA. In the Panthers' bowl game with Street on the sidelines, Boyd actually had one of his best games with eight catches for a career-best 173 yards.

Still, things will be a lot easier with a star opposite him.

Jennings isn't guaranteed to start, but one has to think he has the inside track on the job. Kevin Weatherspoon was a decent third receiver last year, but not much more and also had his share of struggles. Other options could include Syracuse transfer Dontez Ford, Manasseh Garner, or Ronald Jones, who should return from his suspension. But none figure to be the playmaker that Jennings could be.

Jennings also should make things a little easier on Voytik, who figures to be the starting quarterback. Having two playmakers at receiver is better than one, after all.

It's hard to guarantee success for Jennings, but Pitt is very fortunate to have him on board.
