Tyler Boyd signs, Pitt's National Signing Day goes according to plan

Despite some late drama, Pitt's signing day goes as expected as the Panthers lock up one of the top classes in the ACC.

With the announcement that Tyler Boyd will become a Pitt Panther (followed by some Twitter comments from some bitter WVU fans, as expected), Pitt's National Signing Day ends with excitement and hope towards the upcoming season. The Panthers head into their inaugural season in the ACC with one of the top classes in the conference. Headlined by Boyd and OT Dorian Johnson, Pitt went local on their way to the #3 class in the ACC (Scout), #6 on Rivals, and #7 on ESPN and 247Sports, which is around the low 30s nationally.

The first thing that you have to think about when you look at this class is depth. Pitt took five offensive linemen and five defensive linemen - both areas that Pitt needed to build depth at as they move to the ACC. There are also playmakers in Boyd, early enrollee Tra'von Chapman (a dual-threat QB similar to what Chryst had in Wisconsin with Russell Wilson), Jester Weah out of Wisconsin, and Scott Orndoff, another early enrollee.

With the WPIAL loaded over the next two years, Paul Chryst got off to a great start in Year 1. And this was all with a 6-7 record that includes a loss to an FCS school. Imagine the possibilities if he can produce a winner. Needless to say, Pitt's future hasn't looked this bright for a few years.
