Far be it from me to speculate about what Ashton Gibbs is thinking, but I can't help but wonder if he's having second thoughts about entering the NBA Draft.
There's been widespread confusion about what he's going to do. Who knows - maybe that's because even he doesn't know what he's going to do yet.
One thing that I've noticed is that we're now almost two weeks in from the declaration his father made back on April 21st about it being a week or so before his decision. Based on that statement, we should be hearing any day now. The longer it goes, the more it makes me wonder if Gibbs is giving this even more thought (which would be a good thing). That timeframe is also before his workout, which we now is scheduled for this Saturday, May 7th.
While there, he'll get to catch up with a few familiar faces working out the same day has him such as Tennessee's Scotty Hopson who torched the Panthers in their non-conference matchup last season.
Gibbs works out on Saturday, but I'm unsure if he'll get his evaluation that same day or have to wait until Sunday (which is the deadline for declaring). The other thing about all of this is that Jamie Dixon was expecting Gibbs to wait until the deadline to make his decision. I could see a scenario where Gibbs waits out of respect to Dixon until the weekend, only to still declare.
Still holding out hope he'll be back.
