Pitt Vs. Cincinnati: Open Gamethread

Happy New Year, peeps - we had a record number of visitors come through the turnstiles in 2011 and let's hope for more of the same in 2012.

Okay, so in between Christmas and New Year's, the basketball team is still plugging away.

Pitt gets Cincinnati at The Pete tonight on New Year's Day and this one's not looking like it will be easy to win. When three Bearcats players (including star Yancy Gates) were suspended for their roles in the massive fight in the Xavier game, it looked like they were going to struggle.

Unfortunately for Pitt, that's not been the case. Cincinnati's reeled off five straight wins and have been scoring just over 86 points per game with a smaller lineup. They haven't faced great competition, but they've not only continued to win, but have blown teams out. They squeaked by Oklahoma in their last game, winning by one, but won their previous four by an average of 35 points.

To make matters worse, the statuses of Tray Woodall and Ashton Gibbs is unknown due to injuries. Great.

The good news? Game on Root Sports tonight. If you're out of the viewing area, head over to ESPN3 on the internet instead.
