Pitt Football Recruiting: Linebacker James Folston, Jr. commits to Panthers

Kelly Lambert-USA TODAY Sports

The Panthers' football season is over, so other than the team's upcoming bowl game against Bowling Green, the major focus these days is on recruiting. Pitt landed a linebacker out of Florida on Saturday, James Folston, Jr. Folston, a 6'3" 200 lb. linebacker, made the announcement via Twitter:

Folston isn't considered a star - he's got two of them next to his name according to Rivals and also 247 Sports. Scout says he led his team with 107 tackles this season. According to them, he picked Pitt over Minnesota and South Florida. Penn State and Ohio State may have showed some interest as they're listed on his site, but they apparently didn't offer him.

The interesting thing is that he's from Florida. Pitt once had a nice little pipeline to Florida where they landed some kids in the past and getting into the ACC should help that. The Panthers aren't going to challenge the likes of Florida State, Florida, or Miami for the best players there, but breaking in with a few lower-ranked guys will help get others.

In case you're interested, here's some YouTube video workout footage. FWIW, they list him as a defensive back.
