ICYMI (I did) - Former Pitt QB Tino Sunseri signed with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders

Justin K. Aller

Somehow this eluded my attention, but thanks to a reader for mentioning it in the weekly open thread - former Pitt quarterback Tino Sunseri signed with a CFL team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Here's an article from a Canadian site.

And in case you wanted further proof, bam! Sunseri wasn't a part of the team's draft class, but was signed presumably afterwards. The team's fans are decidedly optimistic. No, really.

Okay, got all that? One ironic tidbit for you is that head coach Paul Chryst was actually the Roughriders' offensive coordinator back in the day. Really folks, you can't make this stuff up.

Last we heard from Sunseri was that he was getting a tryout with the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.

Sunseri playing in the NFL has always been a bit of a reach. Though I've stuck up for him in the past, his decision-making at Pitt was questionable at best - even in his senior year where he put up big numbers. And if it was questionable in college, there's no doubt that he wasn't ready for the pros.

But playing in the CFL or another, smaller football league is definitely within his grasp. And for now, it looks like he'll get his shot.
