Former Pitt guard Shavonte Zellous named to WNBA All-Star team

Michael Hickey-US PRESSWIRE

Relatively small note here, but former Pitt basketball Shavonte Zellous was named to the WNBA's All-Star team.

Zellous, playing for the Indiana Fever, is having a career year with highs in minutes (32.1), points (15.3), rebounds (3.4), steals (0.8), and blocks (0.8) per game. Her 15.3 points per contest are good for 13th in the league. This is her first All-Star game appearance and if you're so inclined, you can check it out this Saturday on ABC at 3:30 p.m.

I'll be honest - can't say I watch a lot (or even a little WNBA). But when we talk about Pitt athletes in the pros that are doing well, Zellous' name should definitely be mentioned. Last year, she hit a game-winning shot in the Eastern Conference Finals and also helped lead her team to the WNBA Championship.

Zellous is playing in only her fifth season and should still have a long career ahead of her.
