2013 Pitt Football Training Camp: Day 11

Jared Wickerham

Just a quick hitter today since I've got a lot going on.

Still no good news on the Isaac Bennett front. The running back is still out and freshman James Conner is still gobbling up carries. If there's one tiny benefit out of this, it's that Conner is getting a lot of first team reps. Just as bad as it is that Bennett isn't getting practice with those guys, it's good that Conner is.

Conner also had an interesting quote today:

"I plan on being the first running back out there [against Florida State]," he said.

Don't take that too seriously in regards to Bennett's injury as he didn't say it was based on what coaches told him. But having taken so many first team reps, it's not all that surprising he feels that way. You can take a look at Conner's entire video interview here.

On the Todd Thomas front, the PG's Sam Werner, per that earlier link, says that Todd Thomas is still working with the second team. Again, no real cause for alarm there in my opinion. Chryst is surely going to make him earn the first team spot and there's still plenty of time left. And even if Thomas doesn't start against Florida State, hard to imagine him not getting a lot of playing time.

Regarding the starting wide receiver spot opposite Devin Street, the Trib's Jerry DiPaola says Boyd is close to winning a job - presumably the starting spot.

Paul Chryst also wrapped up the Day session with a short interview where he talked about Tom Savage, his freshmen, and more.
