CBS Sports tabs Pitt football as 57th in Division I

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

As we get closer to the season, more and more college football rankings are being released. This weekend, the AP poll dropped and CBS Sports recently ranked every D-I / FBS program. Pitt checked in at No. 57 on their list. Previously, the site also slotted the Panthers fifth in their division in the ACC and listed Aaron Donald and Jason Hendricks on their All-Conference Team.

The Panthers ranked eighth in the ACC behind top 25 teams Clemson, Florida State, and Miami, and outsiders Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and North Carolina State.

The overall ranking of 57th is a bit better than some have predicted for Pitt this season, but not exactly awe-inspiring. One thing is for certain, though - a season-opening win against Florida State at home would open a lot of eyes and the expectations would skyrocket from a low bowl game to contending for a Coastal Division title.
