Pitt recruiting target Shai McKenzie lists Virginia Tech as new favorite

USA TODAY Sports

The Post-Gazette's Mike White turned a few heads with this interesting tweet this week regarding one of Pitt's top recruiting targets for 2014, Shai McKenzie:

As we noted back in June, Florida State and Pitt appeared to be at the top of his list (if one took that list to be in order of most desirable to least). At that time, Virginia Tech was listed fourth. It really only reinforces what I stated before in that it's still way too early to try to make a prediction on what McKenzie will do. Per Gobbler Country, SB Nation's Virginia Tech blog, don't expect a decision anytime soon. And even if one were made at this point, there's a long way to go until Signing Day. The list is likely changing constantly and there's no real idea on where it will end up. The only important thing is that Pitt is still in the mix.

I've said it before but it bears repeating. Paul Chryst is doing a great job in building the offensive line and McKenzie should thrive in that situation. Dorian Johnson, Michael Grimm, Adam Bisnowaty ... those are building blocks. And when you look at all the depth on the line that Chryst has stockpiled, it's clearly the biggest priority.
