A big win over New Mexico was enough to bump Pitt up a bit in ESPN's latest conference power rankings. The network ranked Pitt 12th in the prior week coming off of the big Florida State loss and ensuing bye, and have moved up to the tenth after the win against the Lobos this past Saturday.
I don't put out full conference rankings like we did in the Big East, but if I were slotting the Panthers, that's probably about where I'd place them. It'd be tempting to rank them ahead of Virginia and maybe even Maryland, but it'd be hard to do that. Virginia, like Pitt, is 1-1, but have a more impressive win over BYU (who just beat up on Texas). Maryland is 3-0 against weak teams, but still 3-0 and has two blowout wins under their belt.
A win against Duke would bump the Panthers up a little bit but likely not all that much unless several teams in front of them lose this weekend.
