If you were trying to make plans over Thanksgiving weekend around the Pitt-Duquesne City Game, the time was announced this week. The annual game will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30th. The game will be at the Consol Energy Center downtown.
The weekend date is a bit of a switch from recent years. The game has been played every year on a Wednesday since 2005 and wasn't on a weekend since 2004.
The date should be a little more convenient for working folks. I always found it hard to go when there was a 9:00 p.m. start having to leave town to come home only to go back. The game being over Thanksgiving weekend isn't too bad for adults staying in town, but the student turnout should be ... interesting. Surely some will be there, but over Thanksgiving break, there's sure to be a lull.
And that's a shame - the students with opposing chants always make the game fun.
There's also, of course, the big Miami football game, too. The turnout for that one will be interesting, too, but for a different reason. It's the third of three big opponents coming into Heinz Field, but also the last game of the year. If Pitt is out of contention and for a potentially cold-weather game over a holiday, I'm not sure the Panthers will see a big crowd for that one.
