Pitt Football Recruiting: Local offensive lineman Alex Paulina commits to Pitt for 2015

Justin K. Aller

Apparently, the memo that Pitt had a pretty big basketball game going on against Syracuse today didn't get to recruits. First, linebacker Jamal Davis committed to Pitt after visiting the school this weekend. Ditto for defensive end Hez Trahan. Those two moves could have wrapped up the Panthers' class this year, but Paul Chryst is already getting a head start on 2015.

Chryst extended an offer to local offensive lineman Alex Paulina and the Canon McMillan star committed for the Panthers' 2015 class. Seriously, are you really surprised at all that Chryst is still going after offensive linemen? That's just his MO. He's a big, big kid - his HUDL page with highlight videos lists him at 6'4", 280 pounds.

Paulina is currently a three-star recruit per Rivals and ESPN but has a full year to play, obviously. According to Rivals, he had some interest in some pretty big schools including Florida State, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia, but Pitt is listed as his only offer there.

Still a bit early since he's still a junior, but kid seems pretty good. He was First Team All-Conference as a freshman, so there's that. And, oh yeah, he only played a half season that year. For a winless team.

As with any kid that commits more than a full year away, we'll see if this one sticks. But it appears to be a solid get for the Panthers to start off the next class.
