6'11" Marvadene "Bubbles" Anderson out for season

The Pitt women's basketball team has a new coach in Suzie McConnell-Serio, but things have still been an uphill battle. The team most recently lost their ACC opener to Florida State and fell 8-7 on the year. It wasn't the final score, though, that caught my eye.

In reviewing the game notes put out by the athletics department, Pitt freshman center, 6'11" Bubbles Anderson, was listed as being out with an injury ... for the season.

Women's basketball info is kind of scarce and I haven't seen what type of injury she sustained, but the game notes don't specify. Either way, it's a blow to the team. She hasn't been dominant, but was definitely a contributor. Despite playing in only nine of the 15 games so far, she predictably leads the team in blocked shots with 21, averaging more than two per game. She also led the team in field goal percentage (51%) and was fourth in both scoring (7.7) and rebounds (4.0) per game.

Her loss hurts the team, but it's also disappointing that she's out for her own development. She wasn't exactly ready for D-I hoops as evidenced by her redshirt last year. The more she plays, the better she'll get, so it's not ideal for her to miss so much time.
