If you follow Pitt recruiting, you should have an idea of who Jordan Whitehead is by now. Whitehead is a high school senior from Central Valley High School in the Pittsburgh area and just about every recruiting service either has him as the number one football recruit in Pennsylvania or near the top.
Whitehead's final four schools are Ohio State, West Virginia, Penn State, and Pitt. The Panthers' need for him is magnified since he is being recruited as a defensive back in college and that's been a trouble area for the team this year. On Friday afternoon, he will announce where he is going to attend college come next fall.
Whitehead is the former teammate of Robert Foster and most Pitt fans remember the day that Foster was projected to commit to the Panthers, and stunned just about everyone by choosing Alabama. Foster kept things close to himself and gave little information to the media - and Whitehead is doing the same thing.
When you think about it with social media and all the gossip, this is a pretty impressive and a mature action to pull off. Things have leaked out from time to time and for a long time running it seemed Ohio State was his choice. Most recruiting experts were all saying as much. Slowly, that momentum turned to West Virginia. Penn State had the last visit this past weekend and now some seem to indicate he is picking the Nittany Lions.
Pitt fans were fine and dandy with all of this information. We are a bridge-jumping bunch, so knowing we seemed to be fourth out of four all the while kept us from even climbing up to the ledge to leap off of it. Almost everyone I spoke with all said Pitt didn't have a shot and as long as you don't give us hope, we're good. Give us a little glimmer and we can't help ourselves
247's Crystal Ball predictions give Pitt a slim chance, but one writer says the Panthers will be the choice.
Yep, just a glimmer.
