Pitt's wrestling program made a move up in the rankings this week, rising to No. 11 in the NWCA/USA Today poll following the team's win over No. 10 Edinboro. Previously, the Panthers were ranked 14th and the loss to Pitt dropped Edinboro four spots to No. 14. Pitt is currently sandwiched between No. 10 Virginia and No. 12 Virginia Tech as the second ranked ACC program.
The Panthers' difficult non-conference season continues with a meet against No. 15 Lehigh this weekend. In addition to Edinboro and Lehigh, Pitt will also later face several other ranked programs including Michigan, Oklahoma State, and the heavily anticipated matchup against Penn State - all three are currently in the top ten.
As the athletics department website also points out, five individual Panthers are ranked in InterMat's top 20 in their respective weight classes - Edgar Bright (141), Mike Racciato (149), Tyler Wilps (174), Max Thomusseit (184) and Nick Bonaccorsi. Bright and Wilps have yet to wrestle this season so far due to injury and Wilps ranks highest among all Panthers at No. 5.
