Pitt vs. North Carolina: Preview and Open Gamethread

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

The Panthers dropped a prime opportunity for a big win at home and now have to go on the road to try to secure one this week. Pitt travels to North Carolina for an afternoon game and while the Tar Heels aren't ranked, a win here would be big for the team.

Even with a down team, though, North Carolina won't be easy to beat. For one thing, the Tar Heels are on a roll having won five games in a row. For another, while Pitt is coming off of the disappointing loss to Syracuse, North Carolina will be well rested, having been off for the past week since their scheduled game against Duke on Wednesday was postponed.

And with the game at the Dean Dome ... I mean, yeah. The Tar Heels aren't unbeatable there as Texas, Miami, and Belmont all proved in wins this season. Still, it will be an unfamiliar and hostile environment for Pitt to cope with.

The encouraging thing is that Pitt appears to have Lamar Patterson and Talib Zanna healthy. In the end, though, that just might not be enough.
