Pitt basketball star Lamar Patterson named to Naismith Award watch list

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Lamar Patterson has been a bit up and down for Pitt lately. Over the past ten games, the Panther forward has scored less than his season average six times. Still, Patterson continues to garner a significant amount of national attention.

On Thursday, Patterson was named to another midseason award watch list for the prestigious Naismith Award. The award is given to the top college basketball player and this is the second such award Patterson is up for - recently, he was named to the Oscar Robertson Award watch list.

Patterson has been a little inconsistent recent but still remains a pretty good player. Over that aforementioned ten-game stretch, the forward still has averaged 16.6 points and more than four rebounds and assists per contest. When you think about it, Pitt goes from being a very good team to one that could have a hard time of making the NCAAs. He has no realistic shot of winning either of those two awards, but when it comes to providing value to his team, Patterson has to be up near the top.
