Pitt to host 2015 ACC Wrestling championships

Pitt's wrestling season has been over for some time now, but some interesting news broke on Thursday regarding the program and the ACC. The University will host the 2015 wrestling championships on March 8th in Pitt's first time hosting an ACC championship in any sport. During the year Pitt wrestles in the Field House, but predictably, the event will be held at the Petersen Events Center, which has a much larger capacity.

The Trib has some news about that March 8th date being key:

The PIAA wrestling finals will be March 7 in Hershey, which Peters said he now will be able to attend.

In the past, Pitt often was wrestling in its conference tournament the same night as PIAAs, meaning Peters couldn't go to recruit.

"We'll hope to get some of those kids and parents to come out after states," he said.

Good news for Pitt here. The wrestling program is one of the more underrated ones at the school and with a lot of returnees (including All-American Tyler Wilps) and a young team getting older, it should be another good year for the program. Last year Pitt won the regular season ACC title, but then stumbled at the conference tournament ... so getting the event at home isn't bad, either.
