Pitt Football Recruiting: Panthers near back of the pack in terms of ACC recruiting for 2015

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Things have gone a bit slowly for Pitt football's recruiting so far and really, that's nothing new for Paul Chryst. As Chris wrote about recently, the program generally has gotten things going in June or early July under Chryst, so this is far from a surprise.

ESPN went over the current 'standings', if you will, in terms of recruiting for all of the ACC's programs. The Panthers' slow start means they're near the bottom of the conference.

With three recruits committed for 2015 so far, the Panthers rank ahead of only Louisville (one) and Wake Forest (two) as of Friday. Overall, Pitt sits in a tie for ninth with Duke, Georgia Tech, and Virginia. Clemson leads the way for the conference with 16 recruits signed already.

While this is a red flag of sorts, it's much more important to see where Pitt finishes. Many players they've targeted for 2015 are still floating around out there as uncommitted and some won't make up their minds until late in the game. It's discouraging to see so few players committed right now, but it's still relatively early.
