Pitt Football Recruiting: Checking in on the rankings of Paul Chryst's 2015 Class

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

It's early, but so far, Pitt's 2015 football recruiting class looks similar others in years past - at least according to Rivals.

Currently, Chryst has landed a total of eight commits for next year. That's good enough to place them at No. 41 on Rivals' ever-changing list of classes, as of Wednesday. That's relatively similar to where they've finished over the past few years - the 2014 class was ranked 44th, in 2013 they were 35th, and they were 47th in 2012.

In terms of the ACC, Pitt sits an uninspiring 7th in the conference to date according to Rivals behind Clemson, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, Duke, and Boston College. The ACC, FWIW, is off to a strong start with those first five teams ranking in the Top 25 and Clemson, Florida State, and Miami all in the top 13.

The recruiting sites always vary, but for now, Rivals and Scout have a very different spin on things. Scout has Pitt all the way down at 63rd in the nation - more than 20 spots below Rivals. 247 is in the middle, placing the Panthers 49th.

The Panthers aren't yet landing major stars for next season (more on that tomorrow), but at least the recruiting has picked up significantly after the slow start. Five of their eight commits have come within the past two weeks.
