Pitt Football Recruiting: Tre Tipton (2015 WR) Decision Coming Soon?

USA TODAY Sports

Pitt landed a couple of commitments for its 2015 football recruiting class last week - first with Malik Henderson, then with Alex Hornibrook. The Panthers hope to have another one shortly with local wide receiver, Tre Tipton.

Tipton attended Pitt's prospect camp this past weekend and the coaches came away impressed. The Panthers have offered him a scholarship but they have some competition for his services - mainly from Michigan State.

Per the Post-Gazette, Tipton is expected to make an announcement pretty quickly on where he'll attend:

Tipton, who caught 44 passes for 697 yards and scored 14 touchdowns for Apollo-Ridge last year, also recently received a scholarship offer from Michigan State, and said he'll likely choose between the Panthers and Spartans within the next two weeks.

Tipton is a three-star recruit according to 24/7, but unrated by Rivals.

Wide receiver is really one area where Pitt continues to add quality. Tyler Boyd is arguably the team's best player and last year, they added four-star receiver Adonis Jennings. Someone else in the group of Pitt's young receiving corps should also develop so the Panthers have a nice core there. Still, adding another quality player to the mix wouldn't hurt.

The offers for Tipton vary a little between the major recruiting sites. Rivals lists Michigan State as his only other major offer, but Scout says he holds a Penn State offer. Even if that's the case, though, it sounds as if he's down to the Panthers or Spartans.

At 6'0" or 6'1", Tipton isn't the biggest guy in the world. But the Michigan State offer and possible interest by Penn State is good to see.

Pitt should have an answer from him in the next couple of weeks.
