The men's and women's soccer seasons are about to get underway as the first Olympic sports of the Fall season. Both participated in exhibition matches over the past week with mixed results.
The men's team dropped an exhibition match on Sunday to Saint Francis, 2-0. They'll have home exhibitions vs. California (PA) and Duquesne later this week before starting their season on Saturday against Presbyterian at home.
The women's program has had two preseason matchups, posting a 1-1 record. The team lost to William & Mary, 2-0, but bounced back to win against Central Michigan, 1-0, on Saturday. They'll open the regular season at home against Akron Friday night in the Steel City Classic.
Both programs struggled badly last season. The men's program went 1-11-4 with their sole victory a 9-0 rout against Howard. The women's team had slightly more success, but still finished a disappointing 4-14-1. The women's program, however, was able to land the No. 14 recruiting class in the nation for this year, so hopefully there's some improvement coming.
