2016 Pitt basketball commit Maverick Rowan moves to Florida

2016 Pitt basketball commitment, Maverick Rowan, has moved to Florida.

Four-star 2016 Pitt commit Maverick Rowan and his family are moving from Beaver County down to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Rowan along with Mustapha Heron, will form one of the most talented recruiting classes in Jamie Dixon's career, and him moving certainly is something to watch.

Maverick Rowan played his high school ball for Lincoln Park Charter in Midland, PA and they won the class A state championship this past year with relatively no resistance. Many speculated that it would be in Rowan's and Pitt's best interest that he goes on to play better competition out of state, and that speculation became a reality this week. He is enrolling at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Cardinal Gibbons is a Florida 5A High School, which is comparable to Pennsylvania's class AAA, a definite step up from Lincoln Park.

If you are questioning Rowan's ability with him only playing Class A basketball here in Pennsylvania, think again. Rowan has had a big summer on the AAU circuit and he is rated highly by all major recruiting services. He has backed up his reputation with his AAU play, but the move to Florida can be concerning for Pitt and where everything stands on that front. Not having him in their own backyard is not the worst thing, but perhaps some more schools can get involved now. Pitt has been his only standing offer, and that has been due to his younger age and that many feel his commitment is very strong. Still, having him closer to a coach like Billy Donovan will make these next two years interesting.
