Against the Odds: Pitt heavy favorites against Akron

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt's stock has taken a bit of a hit after the Iowa loss last weekend. But this week, the Panthers get a step down in competition, facing Akron, and Vegas likes Pitt ... a lot.

The opening line on many books was set at 17 1/2 in Pitt's favor. Despite the Iowa loss and the team's slow start against Florida International the week before that, the line has risen by a few points and is now up to 20. It's hard to imagine that there was a lot of folks siding with Pitt with that many points out there, but that appears to be the case with the line continuing to go up.

I like Pitt on Saturday and barring some really surprising play, the team should win comfortably. That said, I'm not sure I'd be all that willing to spot Akron practically three touchdowns. The Zips, as we've discussed already, are a passing team, and that's what really gave Pitt a lot of trouble against Iowa.
