Panther of the Game: James Conner

Pitt's James Conner ran and ran angry to lead Pitt to a 30-20 win over the Boston College Eagles.

When Paul Chryst was hired at Pitt, Panther fans wanted that hard-nosed and hard-running style and they wanted to win while doing it. Well, don't look now, but a true sophomore from Erie, PA is helping them establish that running style with authority. James Conner ended up with 214 yards on 36 carries in Pitt's 30-20 road victory over Boston College. With apologies to Tyler Boyd, Conner simply imposed his will on Eagle defenders all night. You name the running style and Conner delivered it and therefore, James beats out the wide receiver for Panther of the Game.

Conner also ran hard against Delaware last week, but it's always difficult to judge performances against FCS opponents.  Well, this wasn't Delaware. This is an ACC school and the game was on the road. BC also prides itself on being physical and tough.

Pitt has lacked an attitude for a very long time. Conner displays this over and over again and I don't think there is a Pitt fan that doesn't grin ear-to-ear and get a little fired up when he delivers a hit. Pittsburgh loves that style and they should love James Conner.

Can he continue to deliver and get into the Heisman talk? That sounds ridiculous right now, but if he continues putting up 200-yard games, getting some consideration for prestigious awards shouldn't be out of the question.
