Tyler Boyd breaks school receiving yard record in loss to Notre Dame

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt's 42-30 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday was disappointing, but one bright spot was the wide receiver Tyler Boyd getting his hands on another school record.

Late in the game with the result decided, Boyd broke free on what looked to be some miscommunication in the Irish secondary. On the play, he caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nathan Peterman. With a score of 42-23 (extra point pending), the game was out of hand by that point. But Boyd's catch gave him a school-record 3,097 yards. That topped the previous mark of 3,061 by Antonio Bryant.

On the day, he had only three catches for 84 yards, but also added 40 yards rushing.

Having broken the school record for catches earlier this season (previously set by Devin Street), Boyd now stands alone as Pitt's record-holder for receptions and yardage. The Boyd/Larry Fitzgerald debate will rage on well after Boyd is gone, but he added a little bit to his legacy on Saturday.
