Jamel Artis named ACC Player of the Week

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

We saw Pitt clean up quite a bit in the ACC weekly football awards this season and the basketball team is trying to do some of that as well.

Pitt forward Jamel Artis was named the Conference's Player of the Week for his performance against Western Carolina on Wednesday. That was the Panthers' only game but it was a big one for the junior as he had game-highs with 29 points on 10-14 shooting from the field and eight rebounds. Artis was also a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and had four assists with a block and a steal as well.

Other players (like James Robinson, who nearly had a triple double with 11 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds) showed up in that close game, but Artis was the biggest reason the Panthers were able to sneak out of there with a win. 16 of his points also came in the second half.
