Pitt vs. North Carolina: Open Gamethread

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt is in the midst of its most difficult three-game stretch of the season and today they have their only home game of the group, facing North Carolina.

Playing the Tar Heels represents a giant challenge, obviously - home or away. As I mentioned in the recent Poll of the Week, North Carolina has been exceptionally tough on the road. While the Pete gives Pitt a little advantage, they'll need a lot more than just that to knock the Tar Heels off.

Pitt looked fairly impressive keeping Louisville on the ropes for the first 30 minutes or so of the game before fading late. The question is if the Panthers will be able to string a couple of very good efforts together or if they're simply overwhelmed.

The team has had trouble playing well in back-to-back games after good efforts this season. After crushing Kansas State in the Maui Invitational, they were utterly flat against Indiana. After comfortable non-con wins against Duquesne and Manhattan, the Panthers had trouble with St. Bonaventure and Oakland. After the Notre Dame win, there was the letdown against Bryant. Pitt did rebound pretty well in that aforementioned Louisville game after beating Syracuse, but playing well in successive games has been the exception instead of the rule.

Game time is at noon and locally you can watch it on WTAE/ABC. Join us then to comment live during the game.
