A few weeks ago, I wrote about how Suzie McConnell-Serio should get ACC coach of the year. Others also seem to agree that Suzie McConnell has done a fantastic job at Pitt. This week, McConnell-Serio was named named as one of the semifinalists for the Naismith Trophy National Coach of the Year award.
Suzie McConnell-Serio has helped Pitt go from 11-20 (3-13 in conference) last season to 19-10 (9-7 in the ACC) with the ACC tournament and possibly the NCAA tournament still to go. This accomplishment is impressive on its own, but when you factor in Pitt had the 14th hardest schedule in the country, it's even more eye opening. Pitt was picked to finish last in the ACC, and they are seeded 7th in this week's ACC tournament.
Whether she makes it as a finalist or even wins the award, she deserves a lot of praise for the job she's done early in her career at Pitt.
You can find the full press release and the names of the other semifinalists here.
