Panther of the Week: Michael Young

Michael Young pulled in solid numbers in an otherwise forgettable week for the Pitt Panthers Men's basketball team.

Jamel Artis and Michael Young battled it out again over the past seven days for Panther of the Week honors, but turnovers were the deciding factor. Despite going back and forth in the two games this week, Artis finished with seven turnovers over two games, while Young finished with three of his own. It wasn't just taking care of the rock better that gave Young the edge -- the sophomore finished a week most fans would like to forget with some good numbers overall.

Young started off the week against the Miami Hurricanes with a monster game down low, despite the Panthers losing 67-63. The forward/center drained 22 points, while also contributing seven rebounds and also four assists. Young finished the night hitting 70% of his shots from the field and was also perfect from the charity stripe in the game. While the Duquesne native didn't light it up the same way against Florida State, he still managed a pretty nice stat line in the loss to the Seminoles. Young recorded eight points, six rebounds, one assist, and one steal. It wasn't Young's strongest performance of the season, but then again, yesterday's loss was one of the uglier games we have seen in several years from a Jamie Dixon squad.

Pitt now sits on the edge of elimination. They will need a very strong performance to be considered for the NCAA Tournament now in the coming week, with many feeling they need to win the ACC Tourney. It begins against NC State on Wednesday and if the Panthers are going to make any noise at all, they must have another strong week from Michael Young.
