The Pitt women's basketball team took a huge step forward this year, reaching the NCAA Tournament after being expected to finish near the bottom of the ACC. The Panthers' resurgence was led by star senior Brianna Kiesel and her big year was rewarded as she was selected in this past week's WNBA Draft.
Kiesel wasn't only taken, but was 13th overall, going to the Tulsa Shock.
Her achievements are a mile-long - she graduates as Pitt's all-time leader in minutes played, the fifth-leading all-time scorer, and is fifth all-time in assists. This year, she was named to the ACC's First Team and the All-ACC Defensive Team.
Kiesel is only the second women's player to be taken in the draft, joining Shavonte Zellous, who's had a pretty nice career in the league, winning a championship. Former Pitt standout Marcedes Walker also played in the WNBA and Kiesel helps to continue to build the Panthers' profile.
