Pitt Basketball Recruiting: 2015 center Cheick Diallo could announce decision soon

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt basketball coach Jamie Dixon was among those recently paying 2015 big man Cheick Diallo a visit. Dixon visited Diallo a little while ago and Pitt is in the running for him along with Iowa State, Kentucky, St. John's, and Kansas.

Diallo was named MVP in the recent McDonald's All-American game and he had 18 points and ten rebounds in his team's winning effort. The prized recruit says that his decision could be right around the corner. He will also play in the Jordan Brand Classic on April 17th and says he could announce where he'll attend school at or around the game.

As we mentioned recently, Pitt may have gotten a break with St. John's and Steve Lavin parting ways. The Red Storm hired Chris Mullin as head coach and while the school is still after him, they would appear to be at a disadvantage now without Diallo and Mullin having a prior relationship.

One interesting thing of note, though, is that Mullin hired Iowa State assistant Matt Abdelmassih on his staff. Abelmassih was the Cyclone's main recruiter pursuing Diallo so the Red Storm won't exactly be starting from scratch.
